Creating a Read.
A Read is a long-form piece written for you: several chapters on one question, drawn from Grayy’s library of books, papers and case studies, with the passages it relied on cited in the text. You start one with a conversation.
1. Start with a question
Choose Create a Read and say what you want to understand. A question, an idea or a decision you are facing all work. Grayy asks a few questions back and offers answers you can pick from or replace with your own.
You can add background at any point: notes, constraints, or who the Read is for. It goes with your next message.
2. Agree the outline
When Grayy has enough, it proposes an outline. Change it by saying so in the conversation: ask for a different focus, a narrower question, or a chapter you expected to see. The outline is what the Read is built on, so it is worth getting right before you go on.
3. Check the preview and make your choices
The preview shows the chapters, what the Read will and will not cover, and what Grayy is assuming about you. Customize your Read sets how it is written:
- Voice: Simple, Analytical or Academic.
- Depth: Essential, Deep or Advanced.
- Connections: Focused, Connected or Expansive, for how far the Read reaches into other fields.
- Reading structure: a narrative with a summary for each chapter, key points first, or step by step from the basics.
You can keep Voice, Depth and Connections for future Reads. The same three are on your profile under Reading defaults, and you can change them for any single Read.
4. Create it
Create Read starts the writing. Grayy plans the outline, finds sources, writes the chapters and checks them against the sources. This takes a while. You do not need to keep the page open: follow it under Your Reads in progress, and the Read appears in your Library when it is ready. If the email is switched on in Notifications, Grayy also emails you.
If a Read stops
Sometimes a Read cannot be finished, for example because the library does not hold enough on the question as asked. Its progress page says what happened and what you can do: have Grayy write it again with the same choices, or narrow the question. A Read that could not be finished does not count toward your monthly allowance.
What to keep in mind
Everything in a Read is written by AI. It cites its sources and checks its own work, and it can still be incomplete or wrong. Check anything you would act on against the source it cites, and tell us when something is off with Report a problem.
